MEMORY

What is a memory but then a kind of sorrow?
When it is either a thought of joy yet dissolved in time,
or its companion, a thought of pain which yet remains.
Is not that memory, so to be fair, the one of remembrance,
while another memory truly builds our present existence?
While remembrance separates us from what we were,
memory embraces – she fastens each particles in our soul.
Remembrance will compare what we were to what we may be -
memory simply makes whole the disparate trials of our being.
To be this and to be that, memory says it is to be,
so that lovers remember where they belong to -

so that they remember to whom they belong to
